Shuckin' Shack #11 Prepares for an October Opening!
It was only a few months ago we shared the news that our Durham, NC franchisee, Phil Yong, had received the permits to begin construction of his new restaurant space at 2200 W. Main Street - Suite A140 in the Erwin Square neighborhood. Last month we followed up an in-progress photo and blog update on that location. Now in September, things are clearly coming together for Phil and some of his staff members as they prepare to open their Shuckin' Shack Oyster Bar in October!
According to Shuckin' Shack CEO, Jonathan Weathington, the Durham franchisee has already completed preliminary training over the past few months and can expect our operations team to be on-site within the next few weeks to help train his new employees. According to Weathington, "most new Shuckin' Shacks employee just 10-15 full-time and part-time employees" - significantly less than similar sports pubs and seafood restaurant franchises, keeping staffing headaches and overhead low. We encourage any local residents or visitors to Durham, NC to join the 1,000 people already following their Facebook page to stay up-to-date on hiring opportunities and when to expect the official opening next month!

Football Brings Big Business to Bars and Sports Pubs
With College Football season officially kicking off last Saturday, and the regular season for the NFL starting next Thursday, September 7th, this seems like an ideal time to remind the hundreds of people who've expressed interest in a Shuckin' Shack franchise during the past year about what football means to our Oyster Bar & Sports Pubs. Walk into any one of our 10 locations in the southeast, any day of the week and you'll see all kinds of sports memorabilia from high school, college and professional teams from all types of sports. But visit one of our sports pubs on a Saturday or Sunday during the winter and you'll be amazed by the number of people watching football and the rainbow of jersey colors represented.
The average NFL game has 17.5 million viewers and one of the biggest demographic shifts for professional football is the increase in female fans. According to this recent Reuters report, women compromise 45% of the National Football League fan base! And we see this hold true in our restaurants as well; families and couples coming out to enjoy our award winning hot wings, and share a steam pot or crab legs along with our many varieties of cold craft brews on tap, while cheering on their favorite team. While some restaurant businesses slow down during the fall and winter, Shuckin' Shack Oyster Bar & Sports Pubs benefit from our serious obsession with sports and creating a comfortable friendly atmosphere where all sports fans can cheer and celebrate.
As we prepare for 2018 expansion, we are interested in talking with multi-unit franchisees within the Birmingham/ Tuscaloosa markets. Please watch this brief video and submit the contact form if you would like to learn more about the Shuckin' Shack Oyster Bar & Sports Pub restaurant franchise!
Oysters - "Food of the Future" : CBS Sunday Morning
At least once a month someone contacts our office who is an existing hamburger, pizza or sub sandwich franchisee fascinated by the idea of opening another restaurant within their local market to offer fresh seafood. It's a smart strategy when you consider how much competition there always seems to be for "fast food" versus something as healthy and as easy to prepare as our menu of mostly steamed fresh seafood. So we can't say that we were surprised this past weekend when CBS Sunday Morning aired this video segment, called An Ode to Oysters, promoting the many merits of this "Food of the Future" and correctly naming an "Oyster Renaissance" we began to identify many years ago. The sustainable oyster harvesting methods featured in Duxbury, MA are the same methods our partners at Rappahannock use - as we detailed in this blog post a few months back. Plus, most of the ten Shuckin' Shack restaurants already operating in the Southeast, and the handful set to open later in 2017, serve several of the oyster varieties mentioned within this news report. We applaud the national attention to this "food of the future" that is sustainable and truly beneficial to keeping our waterways clean. And we anticipate even more positive attention to our healthy food category in the future!

Shuckin' Shack Oyster Bar Coming to Little River, SC in 2018!
August has been a busy month already here at the Shuckin' Shack HQ in Carolina Beach! Not only did we have a great Discovery Day late last week but the week prior we signed a franchise agreement to develop a brand new Shuckin' Shack Oyster Bar in Little River, SC! For those who may be a bit geographically challenged, Little River is a great coastal city just north of Myrtle Beach, but right before the North Carolina state line. Our newest franchisee for this market, Alan Bryan, is an experienced businessman from Raleigh who discovered the Shuckin' Shack restaurant franchise while doing some online research - thanks Google! Alan is already working with the Shuckin' Shack team and a developer on a build-to-suit location that will feature waterfront dining and is projected to be open for "a Good Shuckin' time" by Summer of 2018. Our VP of Franchise Development, Mario Piccinin, is still seeking an experienced franchisee to develop seafood restaurants within the Myrtle Beach / Murrells Inlet, SC markets. For more details on multi-unit restaurant opportunities within Myrtle Beach, please visit this special opportunities page!
