Busting the Oysters During "R" Months Myth

As we observe Labor Day this weekend, and celebrate the unofficial end of Summer and the start of football season, some customers of "The Shack" ask us about oysters during the "R" months.

Ever since the first Shuckin' Shack Oyster Bar was founded in Carolina Beach, NC eleven years ago, we've been battling the
myth that people should only eat oysters during months that contain the letter "R".  While that means great business for our dozen restaurants over the next several months, we want to put an end to this theory.   This myths, at least for those of us living here in the good ol' United States, with commercial oyster raising standards and harvesting conditions, have zero basis in fact. 

If you plan on traveling to Europe during the Spring or Summer of 2019, you might want to think twice, but we're happy to report and more than pleased to prove that

Believe it or not, within the United States, fresh oysters are just as great in May, June and July as they are in September, October or November!
